Apple could be planning to release a double offering for its fans in September. The company will allegedly launch a Lite version of iPhone 4 as well as the long-coveted iPhone 5 at the same time, sources in-the-know inform.
The Lite iPhone 4 version will most likely integrate smaller and cheaper hardware components, and will consequently be available for purchase for a lower price-tag. This seems to confirm recent rumors suggesting that Apple is preparing to slightly change its strategy and make the iPhone available for a wider customer base, not just for the rich.
The price-tag is a very important purchase decision factor in developing countries since consumers usually look first at the price tag and only afterwards do they analyze the technical specs. This could be a winning strategy for Apple allowing the company to enter new markets and increase its overall sales level.
Charlie Wolf, Needham & Co.’s analyst has explained Apple’s strategy switch very nicely: ” Apple’s strategy is changing from targeting 25 per cent of the global mobile phone market…to 100 per cent.” Actually, it is very likely that Apple reaches this goal given the brand value the company currently holds.
The Cupertino-based giant is expected to launch its iPhone 5 sometime in September, althoughless optimistic rumors suggest the fifth-generation iOS smartphone could only hit the stores sometime in March 2012. The iPhone 5 will run the iOS 5 platform. However, it is impossible that the Lite iPhone 4 runs iOS 5 as well, since its hardware will probably be incompatible with the latest iOS.
