iPad 3 could see smart bezel technology!
We’ve come across another patent to bring to our readers eyes. This patent suggests a feature that has been rumored for past Apple devices, but something that we have yet to see actually released. This would open up a plethora of new options for theiPad 3.
Our team continually finds prototypes of an iPad 3with an edge to edge screen which would eliminate the outer bezel area. Apple could benefit from a larger area for the screen in order to easily expand their current display (pixels per inch); but it looks like they already have that covered by sourcing from Samsung’s retina display technology.
Apple has other plans for its devices bezel area, including the iPad 3. The current bezel affords users the ability to have a place to hold the device without activating touch sensitive commands on the screen.
The future of the iPad looks to be developing this unused space as a secondary screen that will display illuminated controls for options based on what you are performing at that current time. Since the majority of users equip their iPads with a case from which they can hold their device, we say go for it!
New cases would emerge that either have cut out spaces for the controls, or limiting its coverage on the left and right hand side. Plus, users will be able to switch this feature on or off from an options menu should they choose not to use it at certain times. These controls would greatly enhance the user experience by allowing options that were never possible before.
When playing a game, your controls could instantly be revealed on the side of the device; quickly and easily accessed. The possibilities for app developers are endless as well.
We truly hope Apple decides to put this patent to use in the coming releases of its newest generation of devices. Current reports are suggesting this feature in the iPad 3, iPod touch and the iPhone 5. Although the patent doesn’t suggest the iPad within its filing, this is simply because at the time of the patent, the iPad had not been released yet.
Current iPad users, do you think you would like to see this feature released on the iPad 3? Let’s hear your opinions for or against enhancing the user experience with illuminated controls around the outside bezel!
