2012 Ferrari F70 Enzo On The Road

Ferrari will introduce a special series named, Ferrari Enzo. The cars have been announced by Fiat and Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne at a press conference. Ferrari is focusing on reducing the next generation Enzo’s mass in an attempt to increase speed and handling without necessarily having to force more air and fuel into the F70’s combustion chambers. The F70 will be based around a compact footprint and weigh in at no more than 1,000 kilograms.

The engine the latest word is that the F70 will go possibly with a twin-turbo V8. Only the F70′s direct-injected engine will use the very latest technologies to eliminate turbo lag, achieve 670-700 bhp yet return excellent (for a Ferrari) fuel mileage and low emissions. A hybrid powertrain seems to be unlikely for the F70. The F70 should reach 60 mph in less than 3 seconds. The car with a wheelbase of 104.3 inches and a raft of active aerodynamics on board, the F70 will weigh around 2,200 pounds and will look different from any other model.

The Ferrari F70 goes on sale in 2012, it could very well cost over $1 million.

According to Road&Track, there are some ambitious plans for the successor of the Enzo. The Italian supercar maker plans a mid-engine supercar with only one goal; outperforming the Enzo in combination with being considerably more efficient to comply with emissions standards. So that means less weight, smaller engine and a more compact setup.

They do expect extensive use of carbon fiber on the vehicle achieving the ultimate performance. The target weight for the rumoured F70 is around 1000kg.

Regarding the engine the latest word is that the F70 will switch back to a twin-turbo V8. Only the F70’s direct-injected engine will use the very latest technologies to eliminate turbo lag, achieve 670–700bhp yet return excellent (for a Ferrari) fuel mileage and low emissions. A hybrid powertrain seems to be unlikely for the F70. The F70 should reach 60mph in less than 3 seconds. The target top speed of over 230mph is reached using an array of drag-reducing active aerodynamic features.

This information follows after rumours going around for some months now. We have to wait and see until more information is being unveiled, however the setup seems to be promising.

It’s now been almost six years since the Enzo supercar first entered production, during which time Ferrari has released a number of new models and technologies. More recently we’ve seen the introduction of the California GT and 458 Italia, along with the automaker’s first dual-clutch transmission, as well as the peculiar FXX Millechili concept, but coming up on the horizon is the model we’ve all been waiting for--the successor to the Enzo.

The Enzo successor is reportedly being called the F70 within Ferrari and is being tested with two very different powertrains. One option is a smaller twin-turbo V-8 engine said to be outputting around 700 horsepower and the other is a twin-turbo V-12 unit with an additional 50 to 100 horsepower.

While Ferrari would like to keep a V-12 engine for its new flagship model, tough emissions standards planned for Europe may end up causing engineers to add the smaller twin-turbo V-8 to the car, essentially making it the true successor to the original F40, which was powered by a similar engine set-up.

Furthermore, the F70 will not only be faster and more agile than the Enzo that it replaces, but it will also be smaller, lighter and more fuel-efficient as well.

With a wheelbase of 104.3 inches and a raft of active aerodynamics on-board, the new car is expected to look very different to any other Ferrari, and its total weight will only tip the scales at around 2,200 pounds.

Production is expected to start in 2012 and just like the Enzo only 399 examples are expected to be made.Source URL: https://creative-bazaar.blogspot.com/2011/02/2012-ferrari-f70-enzo-on-road.html
