Her age did matter at times, because by any standard, she is quite very young to be in such a position. However her rich work experience and on-the-job training helped her and above all she took herself seriously; so did everyone else. She regards President Musharraf and Ex-Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz as leaders of great worth. To her both these leaders are highly educated and professional and they surely made a difference.


Elaborating on the policies of President Musharraf, she expressed her regard for President Musharraf as a visionary leader. She acknowledged the people of Pakistan as resilient and strong but detested few segments of our society: who adopt a western culture and regard it as something good. She feels that there has been a huge revolution in the last few years. She graduated in 1999 from LUMS and then left for USA. In these six years, she feels that there has been a paradigm shift. The society has moved towards modernization and westernization. Hina Khar feels that today it is hard to distinguish Pakistan's urban citizens from the Westerners. However, she opined that it can be done with sophistication, if at all it’s necessary. She cannot stand people who are not proud to be Pakistanis, whether they are here in Pakistan or settled abroad. She hates people changing their names to be ‘vilayati’ (foreign) and acquired accents and other things of the sort. She believes we have to understand and accept the culture we're living in and be proud of it to really stand out on our own. Emulating selective aspects of another culture doesn't really translate into true social progress.


She is a proud Pakistani and regards this very feeling as her most treasured asset. She really feels proud of whatever God has given her: her family, her village, her background, and everything. She feels that Pakistan has a great deal to offer. She loves trekking. She recollected her visit to Nanga Parbat and K2 (with the ‘LUMS Adventure Society’) with joyfulness; nostalgia gripped her and she appreciated the diversity of the landscape and the hospitality of people as enough to warm one’s heart towards this country. In Pakistan, people and places make you feel welcome. Freedom of expression is also a thing, unique to Pakistan. She said that even in the remotest areas, one can sit at a railway station to have tea with the porters and have a real conversation with them. Then, during the elections process, when she visited her constituents, she found them to be hospitable in spite of their limited means. A guy earning Rs.3000 a month will lay out a feast for his guests. It all speaks to the generous and warm nature of our culture, which is definitely something we should be proud of!


She considers herself extremely lucky. She is happy for the way her mind is constantly challenged in terms of working hours, the changes she can make, and the room for innovation is just tremendous. She has been able to make some changes that aren’t very popular, but in the long term they are great for Pakistan, e.g. in the telecommunications and banking sectors. However she feels that on the flip side, there are no guarantees in the political field, so she did not comment on how much control she has over making it a lifelong career. She regards working with Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and President Musharraf as one of the biggest factors in her sense of pride for Pakistan.


Hina Rabbani Khar has travelled to USA, UK, Germany, Netherlands, U.A.E, Saudi Arabia and Singapore. She is single and enjoys riding, reading and travelling. She is also a member of the Young Parliamentarians Forum (YPF) Pakistan.


She is articulate, brilliant, enterprising, and very far-sighted even at such a young age. Moreover, she is humble, approachable, professional, and knows her job very well. At the end of the day, if we have more people like her in our government, perhaps Pakistan’s positive image won’t need any marketing beyond simply introducing them to the world!


She is the first woman to present the budget speech in national assembly on 13 June, 2009.

The US Trends | Cowboys & Aliens, the big-budget blockbuster film 2011, starring Daniel Craig & Harrison Ford | "Cowboys & Aliens," the big-budget blockbuster film with Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford, hits theaters today. Many fans are probably aware that the film was presented as based on a graphic novel, like so many other recent blockbusters. But what can they not be aware of how confusing and convoluted way is that it was for "Cowboys & Aliens" to reach the big screen and how its origin is different from other comic book movies.



To shed some light on that, we're taking a look at the trail this property blazed all the way to the Wild West of Hollywood.



"Cowboys & Aliens" is the brainchild of Scott Mitchell Rosenberg, co-owner of Platinum Studios, a multimedia company. Rosenberg himself has his roots firmly embedded in the comic book industry, being one of the founders of Malibu Comics in 1986, an independent publisher which secured its place in comics history both by serving as the original home for the artists collective that become known as Image Comics, and by publishing "Men In Black," another offbeat sci-fi concept that went on to big-screen success.


Malibu was purchased by industry powerhouse Marvel Comics in 1994, and Rosenberg was made a vice-president within that company, but eventually found it difficult to exercise his creative goals under that structure, and departed in 1997. Upon his departure, he entered into co-ownership of Platinum Studios, and began developing properties for use in other media, particularly film, in partnership with the famed Hollywood power-brokers at the William Morris Agency.



Alan Gasmer, an agent at WMA, relates how, while reviewing concept art in pitch meetings, they first recognized the potential of "Cowboys & Aliens." "[Rosenberg would] flip over a poster, and then another and another. When he got to the third one, I said, what's that? He said, it's 'Cowboys & Aliens.' I said, that's your movie. Even though he had nothing written down, I grabbed Rob [Carlson, another WMA agent], who pitched it to his client Steve Oedekerk [director of 'Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls,' and writer of 'The Nutty Professor']. Steve immediately said he was in, and that he would figure out the movie. We went out basically with an illustration and Steve, and we had five offers right away from Disney, Fox, Sony, Universal and DreamWorks until the latter two joined together and bought it. That's how business was done back then."


That initial concept art, of a cowboy on horseback firing his six-gun at a gigantic alien spaceship looming overhead, may have been enough to pique the initial interest of Dreamworks and Universal, but there would be a lot more twists and turns before "Cowboys & Aliens" would have a real shot at being made into a feature film. For starters, there was no actual comic or story behind the concept art. That meant that the property languished in development limbo for years, as different writers came on to offer their own take on the idea (including "X-Men" writer David Hayter), and the film changed studios to Sony Pictures along the way. There were so many different writers in fact, that it ultimately came down to the Writer's Guild trade union having to settle a dispute on who should be credited on the final film. In addition, in 2002, Rosenberg was contacted by lawyers for Tom Arvis, a comic book creator who in 1995 had published his own "Cowboys & Aliens" comic. That issue was resolved after a year and a half of negotiations, which resulted in Platinum settling with Arvis for an undisclosed amount in exchange for the "Cowboys & Aliens" title.


In 2006, Rosenberg and Platinum Studios finally set to work on creating an actual graphic novel in order to propel the stalled film project forward. Established comics professionals Fred Van Lente, Andrew Foley, Dennis Calero, and Luciano Lima were brought on to create the book, which was released in stores in December of 2006, after having been initially serialized as a webcomic. But even this step forward was not without turmoil; controversy arose when it was alleged that Platinum had paid comic shops to carry the book in order to boost sales figures, in hopes of drawing attention from Hollywood.


Regardless of the controversy, Platinum's marketing strategy paid off; Dreamworks and Universal reacquired the property, producers Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, and Steven Spielberg came on board, and acclaimed director Jon Favreau was soon attached to the project. Fresh off the success of his collaboration with Favreau on the "Iron Man" film, Robert Downey Jr. was also in talks to star in the film, but eventually dropped out due to his role in "Sherlock Holmes." However, the film wouldn't suffer too greatly from his departure; it went on to acquire stars of equal magnitude in the form of Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford, who have brought the film to this weekend's debut.


So, no, "Cowboys & Aliens" classified as a true comic book movie? This could be the eye of the beholder, but like all Hollywood movies, a final ruling is made in a particular field: the box office. - MOVIES

The US Trends | Progeria - Hutchinson–Gilford Progeria Syndrome | Progeria (also known as "Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome", "Hutchinson-Gilford syndrome," and "Progeria Syndrome") is an extremely rare genetic disease with symptoms that resemble aspects of aging, occurring at an early age. The word progeria is derived from the greek "pro" means "before" and "Geras" means "old age". The disease has a very low incidence and occurs in about 1 in 8 million live births. While the term progeria is, strictly speaking, all the diseases characterized by symptoms of premature aging, and is often used as such, is often applied, in particular reference to the syndrome of Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria.



Scientists are particularly interested in progeria because it might reveal clues about the normal process of aging. Progeria was first described in 1886 by Jonathan Hutchinson. It was also described independently in 1897 by Hastings Gilford. The condition was later named Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome (HGPS).



The earliest symptoms include failure to thrive and a localized scleroderma-like skin condition. As a child ages past infancy, additional conditions become apparent. Limited growth, alopecia, and a distinctive appearance (small face and jaw, pinched nose) are all characteristics of progeria. People diagnosed with this disorder usually have small, fragile bodies, like those of elderly people. Later, the condition causes wrinkled skin, atherosclerosis, kidney failure, loss of eyesight, hair loss, and cardiovascular problems. It is not transferred by the offspring.


A child with this condition show signs of symptoms is usually around 18-24 months. After birth a healthy baby in the research, its size and weight suddenly, below the average for their age.
